Characters are disposed of in the dark, and the theatrical cut of the film works around the one or two moments of gore that can be seen in the director’s cut. The Invitation isn’t a particularly scary movie, going instead for a creepy, gothic vibe ala Crimson Peak. ![]() Before she knows it, Evie is thrust into a nightmare that she may not have the strength to escape. The two hit it off immediately, but Evie notices that something isn’t right about this place her windows are barred, the maids are put to work at all hours of the evening, and she’s plagued by visions of a mysterious woman in a white dress. ![]() Once at New Carfax Abbey, Evie immediately catches the eye of the manor’s Lord, Walter De Ville. He sweeps Evie to the English countryside to meet the family, all gathered for another cousin’s wedding. ![]()
